நல்குரவு - IN VAIN PURSUIT OF ACCUMULATION

212:
கற்குழி தூரக் கனகமுந் தேடுவர்
அக்குழி தூர்க்கையா வர்க்கும் அரியதே
அக்குழி தூர்க்கும் அறிவை அறிந்தபின்
அக்குழி தூரும் அழுக்கற்ற வாறே.

பொழிப்புரை

மக்கள் அன்னமே (சோறே) யன்றிச் சொன்னமும் (பொன்னும்) தேடுதல், இயல்பாகவே தூர்ந்து போவதாகிய மட்குழிபோலாது, தூர்க்கினும் தூராத கற்குழி போன்ற வயிற்றை நிரப்புதற்கேயாம். ஆயினும், அப்பொன்னை நிரம்பக் குவித்து வைத்தவர்க்கும் வயிற்றை நிரப்புதல் இயலாததே எனினும், அதனை நிரப்புதற்கு வழி ஒன்று உண்டு; அவ்வழியை அறிந்தால் உள்ளம் தூய்மைப்பட்டு வயிறும் நிரம்பும்.

kaṟkuḻi tūrak kaṉakamun tēṭuvar
akkuḻi tūrkkaiyā varkkum ariyatē
akkuḻi tūrkkum aṟivai aṟintapiṉ
akkuḻi tūrum aḻukkaṟṟa vāṟē.

Meaning-[Seek not to Fill Stomach's Pit; Fill the Birth's Pit]

To fill the stomach's stony pit, they seek the precious gold;
But little do they know how hard it is to fill births' pit;
Only when true wisdom you attain that pit to rule,
Then that pit is filled, when life is washed clean and rendered fit.
